A.T. Celebration in Franklin
First Day of Spring through Earth Day
Each spring, Franklin, North Carolina — the first officially designated Appalachian Trail Community — celebrates the hikers, the trail, and the spirit of outdoor adventure that defines our town.
Located just 110 miles north of Springer Mountain, Franklin is one of the first major milestones for northbound hikers. From the first day of spring through Earth Day, our community comes together to honor that journey with a month-long celebration filled with music, food, storytelling, and trail camaraderie.
Throughout the celebration, you’ll find events across downtown and beyond, including:
-
Live music and outdoor gatherings
-
Special events at local breweries, restaurants, and outfitters
-
Hiker meals and community meetups
-
Gear demos and giveaways
-
Educational programs and storytelling events
-
Library talks and outdoor-themed presentations
The A.T. Celebration is more than a festival — it’s a reflection of Franklin’s deep connection to the Appalachian Trail. Local businesses, volunteers, and residents work together to welcome hikers, support their journey, and share in the excitement of spring on the trail.
Whether you’re a thru-hiker reaching your first milestone, a section hiker passing through, or a visitor who simply loves mountain culture, you’re invited to join us. Come enjoy the music, meet fellow adventurers, explore our historic downtown, and experience the warmth of a true trail town.
We look forward to celebrating with you at Mile 110!
