Trail Transportation

During peak hiking season, free hiker shuttles run from both Rock Gap (Mile 106) and Winding Stair Gap (Mile 109.6) into downtown Franklin. These scheduled pickups make it easy to plan your resupply, grab a hot meal, do laundry, visit an outfitter, or just enjoy a well-earned rest day.

Once in town, everything you need is within a walkable one-mile radius of Historic Downtown — including lodging, grocery stores, outfitters, restaurants, breweries, medical services, and more.

For hikers needing flexible timing, early/late pickups, slackpacking support, or rides to other trailheads, a network of trusted private and volunteer shuttle drivers is also available. Our community understands trail logistics and works hard to make sure every hiker feels supported and cared for.

Franklin was the very first officially designated Appalachian Trail Community — and reliable transportation support is part of what makes this stop so special.
